This Stunning Half-Back Baby Braid Will Make You Stand Out

We're going to admit something to you: sometimes we get bored of braids. Before you get mad, hear us out. A few years ago, plaits felt like a novelty when spotted on a celebrity or runway hairstyle. But with the emergence of braid bars and the like, we're just seeing them everywhere. That's why when we spot a woven look that makes us do a double take and quickly press down on our "pin it!" button, we get pretty enthusiastic.

So was the case when we saw the recently half-back braid Sarah Potempa created on actress Jamie Chung. The updo is a fantastic solution for women who want to wear their hair down but still keep it out of their faces (making it a wonderful pick for weddings!). It showed off Jamie's beautiful ombré, and the beaded hair jewelry was an added bonus — giving the entire 'do a fashion-forward feel. Plus, it's pretty simple to DIY. Here's how you can re-create it at home:

Step 1: Create a center part.

Step 2: Curl hair by sectioning with the Sarah Potempa Darby Clips ($10) and curling with the Sarah Potempa Beachwaver S1 ($129).

Step 3: Braid two small braids on the left, and then right behind your ears.

Step 4: Wrap the braids over the hair and secure with bobby pins. Add an accessory such as this Ben-Amun crystal-encrusted piece ($135).

Step 5: Spray with Aussie's Aussome Volume Hairspray ($3) for texture. Done!
