Why Khloe Kardashian Is Urging Her Fans to Monitor Their Skin

Khloe Kardashian is cautioning her fans to be mindful of skin health after discovering a cancerous mole on her body a few years ago. The star got candid about her scare with skin cancer in a post on her app.

In her recollection, Khloe shared that a few years back, she noticed a growing mole under her breasts. She researched potential causes of the expanding mole and learned that if a lesion is changing in size or shape, you should seek medical attention. And she did.

"They took the whole thing out and they biopsied it. Thankfully, it was benign," she revealed. "I've gone through this process a couple of times and I am so grateful that most moles have not been cancerous."

But despite a few false alarms, Khloe did find that one mole on her skin actually was cancerous. She explained that doctors removed eight inches of skin upon discovering the affected area.

Khloe urged her fans to check on the health of their skin frequently. "Now that I've gone through this a couple of times, I am extra aware of my skin, body and moles" she wrote. Though Khloe hasn't dealt with any biopsies recently, she hopes that her experience will encourage others to take action if they notice any unusual marks on their own bodies. "I haven't had a problem in years, but wanted to share my experience with you so that if you notice something doesn't look right, you will take action and take care of your health!"

You can start protecting yourself from the risk of skin cancer by using an effective SPF to shield your body from the sun. In addition, be aware of atypical spots on your body (including the soles of your feet!) and make an appointment for a routine screening with your dermatologist. Consistent skin checks with your doctor will allow him or her to monitor your complexion, making any new, suspicious spots easier to find.
