Rachel McAdams's Sister Gave Her a Chanel Makeover For the Oscars

The relationship between a celebrity and a makeup artist is a fragile one — because, hello, you are trusting them with your face. Luckily for Rachel McAdams, she has known her go-to makeup pro for her whole life . . . because it's her sister! The only downside? If you mess up, you may have to answer to your mom.

Kayleen McAdams is Rachel's talented younger sibling, and she is star in her own right (we bet her mother is very proud of her). She is represented by The Wall Group and has A-list clients who include Jessica Biel and Sofia Vergara. But when it comes to a big night like the Oscars, it looks like Rachel gets first dibs.

Kayleen teamed up with Chanel to give Rachel a smoldering style, highlighted by an emerald eye. "I wanted Rachel's look to be a little sexy, a little sultry," Kayleen said of the inspiration. "I think Rachel was going against the grain, choosing the slinky dress that she did. We wanted to keep those clean lines, and to give her eyes the same pop that her dress had."

Keep reading more in our exclusive interview with Kayleen about re-creating that eye makeup, perfecting your skin, and making sure your lip doesn't smudge.

POPSUGAR: After so many award shows, what's extra special about tonight's look?
Kayleen McAdams:
Every award show this season has been special in its own way but this is the ACADEMY AWARDS so every little part had to be perfect. We wanted to continue in the creative sexy beauty direction we have gone with all season.

PS: What is the key product and step readers should know to DIY it at home?
KM:
The trick to this eye was to use the green shadow just at the lash line. Rather than applying all over the eye, keep it just at the root on the top and bottom lashes. I used a creamy contour to give shape to the crease and to the bottom lash line rather than anything heavy.

PS: Tell us more about how you put the look together.
KM:
The contour was Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base and the green cream shadow was Chanel Illusion D'Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eye Shadow in Griffith Green. I used concealer to brighten under the eye and a little gel blush by the same brand to give life to the face and cheeks. Chanel Rouge Coco Stylo Complete Care Lipshine in Conte finished the look for the perfect sheer lip!

PS: What should women keep in mind when wearing a vibrant eyeliner?
KM:
When using a vibrant eyeliner, remember to blend the edges of the liner with a Q-tip. The softness at the edges makes it wearable. Lots of mascara and a little curl also grounds the look.

PS: How do you keep the color from smudging and fading into the under-eye area throughout the night?
KM:
The key to this look was choosing a product that has great staying power. This cream eye shadow has a mousse-like texture and is very blendable but once it's set, it's SET!

PS: What is your best tip to make a matte lip stay all night without feeling dry?
KM:
I chose to do an easy sheer lip on Rachel instead of anything matte. I love the new Chanel Rouge Coco Stylo Complete Care Lipshine; they deposit color without being too heavy. The formula stays put but never gets cakey.

PS: Did you do anything to prep Rachel's skin and give it a glow before applying makeup?
KM:
I prepped Rachel's skin with a serum so it wasn't too heavy, blending the product into the skin well. My key to achieving glowing skin was to use a sheer foundation and concealer just under the eyes. I used a buffing brush to really blend the product into the skin, making them become one. Skip the powder, and use a setting spray instead!
