If you are ever in need of some fresh beauty inspiration or want to know if a product is really worth the hype, there's only one place to look: TikTok. That's how I recently discovered the CHI Spin and Curl Ceramic Rotating Curler ($70, originally $110). I noticed a growing collection of videos using the rotating curling iron with the overall consensus that it's the next best thing in hair tools, so I decided to try it for myself.

Like many viral products on TikTok, this specific curler from CHI isn't exactly new, but thanks to the video-sharing app, it's recently bubbled back up on people's radars. The hot tool works by pulling hair into its spinning curl chamber with a simple press of a button. There are two arrows on the handle of the device to create curls in alternate directions. Then, it beeps to signal that the process is finished, and you release the hair. Best of all, it's currently on sale at Amazon's third annual holiday beauty haul sale.

I decided to try it out for myself. Keep scrolling to see how it went.

About the CHI Spin and Curl Ceramic Rotating Curler

  • Unlike other curling irons, this model features directional buttons that allow you to rotate the curler with the press of a button, rather than having to manually wrap hair around the barrel.
  • Per the brand, it's designed to help reduce frizz and static, all while offering a gentler way to curl hair without the added friction.
  • The hair tool comes with adjustable heat temperatures and heat-up times, so you can tweak the settings based on what works best for your hair type and curling needs.

What I Like About the CHI Spin and Curl Ceramic Rotating Curler

Because the hot tool is automatic, it promises perfect curls or waves every time (as long as your hair is at least four inches long), and according to its fans on TikTok, it's much easier than a traditional curling iron or wand. I got the CHI Spin and Curl Ceramic Rotating Curler ($100) in the rose gold color, but it also comes in a newer version called the Volcanic Lava Ceramic Pro Spin and Curl ($150), which is supposed to be healthier on the hair.

How to Use the CHI Spin and Curl Ceramic Rotating Curler

At first glance, the tool is a little intimidating, but once you get the hang of using it, it couldn't be easier. Right away, I was impressed by how fast it heats up — I'm talking within seconds of turning it on. Another added bonus is that the outside of the curler doesn't get hot, so you don't have to worry about accidental burns or placing it down on your counter. Because I have fine hair, I kept the temperature at 350 degrees, but it can go up to 410 if you have thicker hair. You hold the device straight up and down and place small sections of hair (about 3/4 to one inch in size) in the center of the barrel, press the button in the direction you want it to curl, and you're off. The timer can be set for 15, 17, or 19 seconds, but you can take your hair out whenever you want, which I did after about nine seconds.

What to Consider Before Buying the CHI Spin and Curl Ceramic Rotating Curler

Part of me was afraid my hair would get tangled in the internal rotating barrel, but I didn't come anywhere close to that happening — it was really as easy as the TikTok videos made it look. What I really like about this rotating curler is that it didn't leave my hair as hot as most traditional hot tools and, therefore, felt a bit healthier. I found getting the back of my head a little tricky with the angle of the device, but considering I've only been styling the front part of my hair for Zoom meetings as of late, it works for me. If you're someone who struggles with maneuvering a wand or curling iron, the CHI Spin and Curl Ceramic Rotating Curler ($88, originally $110) would be a great solve. I'd consider this another TikTok win.
