Why Did No One Tell Me That Keanu Reeves Is Such a Huge Part of GlamGlow's Origin Story?

Before GlamGlow's Youthmud Exfoliating Mask became a cult-favorite skin-care product, it was birthed as a simple solution to help a Hollywood veteran — Keanu Reeves, to be exact — get camera-ready skin in less than 10 minutes. In an interview with LA Magazine back in 2017, GlamGlow founders Glenn and Shannon Dellimore revealed that the creation of the skin-care brand was a direct result of a conversation that Shannon, formerly a paralegal, had with Reeves at a party in 2008.

"Keanu was talking about getting older and being up late reading scripts, and how to make his skin camera ready," she said. "It was this all-in-one thing: 'I have ten minutes, and I want to look like I just had a facial.'" Hearing that, the Dellimores did some research and discovered that affordable, spa-quality skin-care products (mainly face masks) were lacking, so they decided to create a mud mask that could exfoliate the skin in under 10 minutes.

In a handful of years, the masks — which contain volcanic rock, green tea leaf, and natural clay — went from being small samples of product that they just passed off to friends to favorites of celebrities like Chrissy Teigen, Kate Hudson, and Nina Dobrev. While it's not clear if Reeves has ever actually used the mask, we can at least hope he's aware that it was created in his honor.
