Kelsey Ballerini's 2023 Grammys beauty look deserves a spot on the best-dressed list. The "Heartfirst" singer arrived on the red carpet on Feb. 5 dressed in a stunning custom yellow gown by Prabal Gurung — but her glam, by celebrity hair and makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan, was the cherry on top.

"Over the last few days, Kelsea, her stylist Molly Dickson, and I sent back and forth some glam ideas and inspiration and collectively landed on sleek hair pulled off the face with a warm sunny monochromatic makeup look. Having the hair pulled back sleek allows the intricacy of the dress's neckline to be front and center," Deenihan tells POPSUGAR, referring to the crisscrossed halter top and embellished underwire straps of Ballerini's gown.

Ultimately, the pair landed on a sleek updo, similar to the supermodel bun that's trending at the moment. "Kelsea loves a slick and lifted ponytail, so we started there and then played with different ways of creating something beautiful for the bun," she explains. To achieve the look, Deenihan started by applying the Mermade Hair Styling Primer ($21) to Ballerini's wet hair and combed it through before giving the singer a sleek blowout with the brand's Blow Dry Brush ($79). "To ensure her hair was as straight as possible, I used the Straightener ($79)," Deenihan says. "This lightweight tool helps to seal the hair cuticle, create shine, and combat fly-aways."

With Ballerini's hair straightened, Deenihan "gathered her hair at the nape of her neck and secured it with an elastic." She finished the style with a quick coat of hairspray and then used the Mermade Iconic Hair Dryer ($79) to smooth down flyaways.

But that wasn't the end of Deenihan's involvement in the singer's look — she also did her makeup using Covergirl, for which Ballerini is a brand ambassador. The products she used included the Covergirl Clean Fresh Skin Milk Foundation ($12), Lash Blast Clean Volume Mascara ($13), and Exhibitionist Lipstick in 505 Burnt Red Pepper ($8).
