Nars's New Matte Lipstick Will Pamper Your Dried-Out Pout

Few trends have dominated the beauty market like matte liquid lipstick. Brands like Revlon and Stila were churning out these formulas long before Kylie Jenner's notorious Lip Kit stole millennials' hearts (and possibly their credit card information). Once that one product went viral, seemingly every cosmetics company produced its own take on the fad. Surprisingly, there's still a large number of people who have actively avoided trying them. Liquid matte formulas may typically be durable, but they are particularly known for how drying they can be.

Nars Cosmetics's new Velvet Lip Glide formula ($26) defies this trend. Unlike most of its brethren, the silky, oil-packed formula never fully dries down. That means the texture stays soft and creamy as long as you wear it on your lips. This also causes the finish to look sumptuous and (truly!) velvety, not papery or crusty.

The 13 shades vary from brooding aubergines and barely there pinks. But red-lovers will be delighted to find that there are four variations of their favorite color, perhaps because brand founder Francois Nars claims this hue "looks better matte." After trying the poppy-petal Mineshaft, you'll definitely agree.

Fans of so-long-wear-you-can-sleep-in-it lip color should note that this product wears similarly to a traditional lipstick. But that doesn't mean you'll be left with a mess after your morning coffee. As you go throughout your day, your pout will fade evenly, leaving a perfectly carefree — and nearly naughty — stain behind.
