Since it's literally their job to maintain gorgeous, glowing skin, you could argue that models know more about skin care than the average person. With that in mind, we wove through the backstage chaos of New York Fashion Week Spring 2018 to talk to models with flawless skin. Our mission: find out what inventive, tried-and-true tricks they have up their couture sleeves.

Over the course of the week, we learned that some simply won the good skin lottery and effortlessly beam like heaven-sent angels. However, most are like the rest of us, only they've figured out ingenious ways to zap a zit a day before the runway, look perky after two hours of sleep, and keep skin clear despite walking miles in city smog to their castings.

Apple Cider Vinegar to Treat Pimples Overnight

Apple Cider Vinegar to Treat Pimples Overnight

While walking around backstage at Christian Siriano, we overheard Georgia Pratt talking about skin care with her assigned makeup artist. Of course we had to jump right in!

"I've been putting apple cider vinegar on pimples that are brewing that haven't come to the surface yet, and it seems to have worked," she told us. "I had like a couple hormonal ones that came up on my chin every month. Before [the acne] really comes through, I just put some apple cider vinegar on before going to bed, and they haven't come up."

For application, she douses a cotton pad with the vinegar and then presses it to the area for about a minute.

Yogurt For Eye Bags

Daniela Aciu admitted that she's pretty lucky when it comes to her skin, but she's not immune to fatigue from jet-setting all over the world for shows and shoots.

"Because I travel a lot, I get like under-eye circles," she told us backstage at Tibi. "Sometimes I use yogurt directly on the back of cold spoons and apply it to my eyes and hold it for five minutes. Then I wash my face. It's so good. There's something about the probiotic in the yogurt and the coldness, and it really helps with my jet lag."

Layers and Layers of Moisture

Layers and Layers of Moisture

Some people throw on a cream after splashing some water on their face and call it a day, but Manon Valentin, who walked the Linder show, is not one of those people.

"I put like five different things on in the morning," she said, noting that she's a huge fan of Sisley products. "I wash, I put on oil, I put on cream, I wait, and then I put on another cream. Once a week, I exfoliate, unless it's Fashion Week, and then I exfoliate two times a week. I also don't drink alcohol and don't smoke. I just really take care of my skin."

Honey and Strawberry Brightener

Backstage at Katie Gallagher, Hannah James filled us in on an awesome, straight-from-the-fridge beauty trick for making skin look refreshed.

"I take strawberries and mash them with a little honey, then rub it on my face," she said. "It brightens and makes my skin feel really soft and so fresh. Plus, it smells amazing."

Nose Exfoliation

Nose Exfoliation

Many of us exfoliate pretty much all over, but our noses tend to get neglected. If you think about it, our noses get a lot of sun and are susceptible to peeling and flaking, plus they're exposed to our (admittedly dirty) sunglasses. Model Sanne Vloet, who walked for Cushnie et Ochs, says she always makes sure to gently exfoliate this area.

"If I'm traveling or want to use a really natural scrub, I use olive oil and sugar on my nose for dry skin," she said. "The olive oil makes my skin very moisturized and the sugar scrubs it. I like it because it's really natural, so there's no perfume or other ingredients in it."

Weekly Sauna Visits

Weekly Sauna Visits

Here in the states, we don't put a lot of emphasis on maintenance treatments and instead indulge sporadically on #treatyoself spa days. For Bibi Sharipova, though, routine visits to the spa are integral to achieving flawless skin.

"I spend a lot of time in the sauna," she told us backstage at Christian Siriano. "I go once a week, and that's the number one tip I can give to any girl. It helps keep my skin clear, especially because at shows they use a lot of makeup on me."

Rosewater For Rosacea Flare-Ups

Rosewater For Rosacea Flare-Ups

"I am such a huge skincare junkie, and I have a set routine that I do every day," said Giovanna Lopez, who modeled at Michael Costello's presentation. She noted that in addition to cleansing and applying serum every day, she's also a huge fan of using rosewater as a toner on her sensitive skin.

"I have rosacea flare-ups, so it's one thing that really helps to calm my skin and soothe my redness," she said. "Sometimes cotton balls can cause micro-exfoliation, so I tend to just pat the rosewater into my skin and let it absorb. If I feel like I do need a little bit of exfoliating, I'll apply it to a cotton ball and gently use it around my nose."

Men's Moisturizer

Men's Moisturizer

Who says you have to stay in the women's aisle when it comes to skin care? Nina Marker, who walked for Carolina Herrera, said her skincare routine is pretty simple. One thing she does differently than most, though, is that she uses a men's moisturizer. Her favorite is by Gillette.

"It smells really nice and when I tried it, it just felt like my skin was super nice," she said. "I used to have a Chanel one, but this one is cheaper and, for me and for my skin, it's better."

Cucumber Skins For Tired Skin

Cucumber Skins For Tired Skin

You might be familiar with the cucumber-over-your-eyes tip, but Irina Kravchenko, whom we spoke to at Tibi, has her own spin on this trick. For starters, she uses the cucumber peel, not the fleshy part; and second, instead of just applying them to her eyes, she'll use the peels on her entire face. Also, she insists on only using the best of the best.

"The cucumber needs to be really organic, not from the store," she said. "It must be from your own garden, so that you for sure know it has been grown naturally." (Our tip: if you don't have a garden, try the farmers market.)

Cucumber skins contain more antioxidants than the inside of the vegetable. It helps to soothe skin and reduce swelling.

Dr. Bronners All Over

DJ Smith, whom we talked to backstage at Michael Costello, is all about minimalism when it comes to maintaining her gorgeous skin.

"I try not to wear makeup unless I'm working, and then after I'm done, I'll wash it all off," she said. Her go to cleanser is Dr. Bronner's Pure Castille Soap ($16).

"I dilute it with a bit of water, and then use it on my entire body," she said. "I like it because it's natural, and I use it all over my body and face — even in my hair."

AHA + BHA Pads

AHA + BHA Pads

After cleansing her skin, Yulu Serao reaches for her tub of Peter Thomas Roth Max Complexion Correction Pads ($40). These contain a fusion of both AHA and BHA to nix acne, reduce pore size, and minimize fine lines. Plus, they're super easy to use since they come in pad form.

"They've really helped balance out my skin," she told us while waiting for the Sandy Liang show to begin. "When I wipe them on my face, you can see the color change, and I feel like it really pulls the toxins out."

Sugar, Honey, and Lemon Lip Scrub

Sugar, Honey, and Lemon Lip Scrub

Jordan Wessel was Miss Arizona 2014, and now she's an NYC-based model who happened to work the Michael Costello show. NBD or anything!

Right when she wakes up, she'll wash her face with cold water, rub an ice cube all over, and then apply a moisturizer before hitting the gym. Afterward, she'll do her full skincare routine, which includes Neutrogena soap and her Clarisonic. We were especially interested in her DIY lip scrub, though, which contains brown sugar, honey, and a little bit of fresh lemon.

"The lemon makes it taste really good and makes my lips feel cleaner than if I just use honey and sugar since the honey leaves a residue," she said.

Green Tea Ice Cubes

Green Tea Ice Cubes

Speaking of ice cubes . . . Polina Park, who walked at Linder, said she brews her own green tea, then puts it in the freezer to make skin-calming ice cubes. In the morning, she'll rub it on her face before heading out the door. "It helps to soothe skin, depuff, and make me look more awake for the day," she said.

Just Pop It

Just Pop It

When a pimple appears, it can take every ounce of willpower to not touch your face or mess with it. Tay Demery, who walked for Christian Siriano, said that sometimes you've just got succumb to the (literal) pressure and just pop it. The key, though, is to adequately prep the skin and take care of it afterward.

"I'll just let it come to a whitehead and then pop it," she explained. "First you have to cleanse and sanitize it, and then after you pop it, you need to moisturize it." Afterward, she leaves it alone and just lets it heal.

Full-Body Coffee Scrub

Full-Body Coffee Scrub

"I’m obsessed with skincare products," said Kasia Lysikowska backstage at Cushnie et Ochs. "To be honest, I prefer to spend money on skin care rather than clothes." A woman after our own hearts!

Her favorite brand is Kiehl's, but she's also a fan of DIY beauty and makes her own coffee scrub by combining coconut oil with coffee grounds and exfoliating every other day in the shower. The caffeine in the coffee helps wake up and rejuvenate skin, and it's said to be a cellulite hack as well.

Hot Yoga

Hot Yoga

Emily Reda likes to combine her workouts with her skincare routine via a little hot yoga. "You just sweat everything out," she told us backstage at Linder. It's a similar concept to hitting the sauna, only hot yoga rooms tend to sit at around 40 percent humidity while saunas are at 20 percent humidity. Also, your body is working doubly hard to sweat it all out. Not only does it help to detoxify the skin, but that steam can hydrate and increase blood circulation for a rejuvenated complexion.

LED Light to Zap Pimples

LED Light to Zap Pimples

I think we can all relate to having a rogue pimple pop up out of nowhere. Now just imagine if a monster zit appeared the day before a runway or photo shoot where you you had to be ready for your macro close-up! When that happens to Tarah Rodgers, she consults her dermatologist, who zaps them with an LED light.

"It is supposed to help kill the bacteria, and it does work for me," she told us backstage at Cushnie et Ochs. "[My dermatologist] doesn't pop it because that would be too aggressive, but just using the light helps it go away."

She told us she's also tried the cortisone shots and says that method does help to deflate zits, but the skin can get a bit "wrinkly." When she had a pimple pop up a few days before Fashion Week, LED light was her go-to.

Chamomile Tea For Under-Eye Circles

Chamomile Tea For Under-Eye Circles

"If I'm really tired or feel like I need a pick me up, I boil chamomile tea and put it in the fridge, and then apply the cold tea under my eyes with cotton balls," said Viktoria Kvalsvik backstage at Sandy Liang. "The tea has a little bit of caffeine in it, and it really soothes my under-eye area and makes me look more awake."
