Demi Moore and Bruce Willis Open Up About Daughter Rumer in Emotional DWTS Video

Demi Moore and Bruce Willis gave a rare insight into their past home life when they opened up about their daughter Rumer in an interview segment on Monday night's episode of Dancing With the Stars. Rumer, who is currently dominating the competition with her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, is extremely close with both of her parents, but Demi admits that their 2000 divorce was hardest on their eldest daughter. "When their father and I decided to divorce, it probably had the biggest impact on her," Demi said of Rumer, adding that the constant media attention on their children was hard for her to bear. "There really wasn't anything I could do to stop it. Her self-esteem was nothing. I could only just keep loving her and loving her until she could love herself." Rumer also admitted that the constant scrutiny she received from the public about her looks took a major toll on her growing up. "Media attention is tough when you are a kid; it is definitely weird to have that be such public knowledge," she explained. "A couple times, things would happen in my family — whatever drama it was — I couldn't leave my house for a week. As I got older and people started, you know, commenting on how I look, that's when it really started to affect me."

But after gaining more confidence and signing up for the reality dancing competition, Demi said she saw an immediate change in her daughter. "When she said, 'I think I wanna do Dancing With the Stars,' my whole insides, I have to be honest, were screaming 'No.' But one of the most beautiful things that I've witnessed is watching her passion become greater than her fear . . . It has nothing to do with her being my kid or Bruce's kid, it has everything to do with just who she is." Bruce also added of his daughter, "I'm crazy about her. I love her."
