The Most Moving Pictures From the "Million March" Protests

On Saturday, thousands of people took to the streets in Chicago, NYC, and Oakland, CA, to continue ongoing protests related to police brutality and the grand juries' decision not to indict officers involved in the recent deaths of Michael Brown in Ferguson, MO, and Eric Garner in Staten Island, NY. In Chicago, demonstrators staged a "die-in" along the Magnificent Mile shopping district on Michigan Avenue; the protest weaved through sidewalks packed with holiday shoppers, and about 25 of the approximately 200 demonstrators were arrested. Both Oakland and NYC residents organized a "Millions March" in their respective cities — protesters in Oakland marched through the evening, holding signs that read "Black lives matter," and "They tried to bury us. They didn't know we were seeds." Organizers also spoke to the crowd outside Oakland's City Hall. In the Big Apple, hundreds protested along Fifth Avenue while demanding justice for black men who have died at the hands of police officers. Many carried signs that boasted, "I can't breathe," the last words of Eric Garner, a 43-year-old man from Staten Island who was killed when Officer Daniel Pantaleo put him in a choke hold.
