"Top Gun: Maverick" isn't just the return of Tom Cruise to a star-making, iconic role 35 years later. Cruise lights up the screen alongside folks like Jennifer Connelly, as well as an ultratalented cast of new pilots. That includes Monica Barbaro, Jay Ellis, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Greg Tarzan Davis, and Danny Ramirez. Though they each bring a very unique perspective to their characters, we found out they have a great deal in common.

Besides the obvious excitement to take part in this storied franchise (and the associated pressure to perform), they also have a deep respect and awe for Cruise. They certainly had to withstand a grueling amount of training to create authenticity for the long-awaited sequel, from simulated underwater helicopter escapes to months of stomach-churning aviation acclimation.

The cast broke down all the incredible lengths they went to in order to create this nonstop thrill ride, including directing Navy pilots and recording themselves in the actual fighter jets! Just watch Davis replicate his excitement upon hearing he was cast, and you'll understand how psyched these actors were to get the call:
