3 Reasons You'll Be Obsessed With Aziz Ansari's New Netflix Show

Aziz Ansari has done stand-up specials for Netflix before, but come Fall, he's debuting a comedy series with the network. Master of None premieres Nov. 6, and Ansari and his showrunners hit up the Summer TCA to premiere the first footage and give us some details of the show. For fellow fans of comedy and/or Netflix: it's pretty obvious this will be our new obsession. Here are three big details — and reasons — you won't be able to wait to binge Master of None.

Ansari Is Playing a Character Like Himself, but Not Necessarily Himself

Aziz Ansari is executive producing and starring in the 10-episode comedy series, playing Dev, a 30-year-old actor in New York. According to the funny press release, "Dev's story takes him through subjects as diverse as the plight of the elderly, the immigrant experience, and how to find the most delicious pasta for dinner." There are similarities to Ansari, himself a 30-something actor living in New York City, but Ansari says that Dev isn't exactly him. Even the fact that Dev is an actor is just out of convenience: "it’s just the world we knew well," Ansari said.

The Guest Stars Will Be Epic

In the first footage of the show we saw at the event (sadly not available online yet), we saw several guests stars, including Claire Danes as a love interest (exec producer Mike Schur said that this was actually her first guest starring role since starting Homeland). Other cast members of note: Saturday Night Live's Noël Wells will play Ansari's regular love interest, plus Eric Wareheim, Noah Emmerich from The Americans, H. Jon Benjamin, and — funny enough — Ansari's own parents as Dev's parents.

The Team Behind It Is All From Parks and Recreation

Ansari's last series was the dearly departed Parks and Recreation, and though that show is over, its bones are in Master of None. Besides star Ansari, Parks creator Mike Schur is an exec producer on the new show, as is Alan Yang, who wrote for Parks.
