8 Movies to Go See This Halloween

If you've grown out of trick-or-treating (thanks a lot, arbitrary rules of contemporary society), perhaps you're looking for something to do on Oct. 31. While Halloween falls on a Monday this year, there's a whole weekend of festivities to partake in before the big day. One of the best traditions has to be going to the movies to scare the sh*t out of yourself. I know, I know. Not everyone likes horror movies. Turns out we're all in luck this year as there are a handful of movies for every film fan. Here are your eight best bets, ranked from least scary to scariest.

08
Kevin Hart: What Now?
Universal Pictures

Kevin Hart: What Now?

Kevin Hart's stand-up special is categorically not scary . . . unless you consider topics like the country's current political and social status scary, in which case this is actually the most terrifying film on the list.

07
Keeping Up With the Joneses
20th Century Studios

Keeping Up With the Joneses

Zach Galifianakis and Isla Fisher play a suburban couple who live next door to a couple of secret agents (Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot). It's a comedy, so you won't need to bring your blankie.

06
Tyler Perry's Boo! A Madea Halloween
Lionsgate

Tyler Perry's Boo! A Madea Halloween

Despite being set on Halloween, Tyler Perry's Boo! A Madea Halloween isn't the least bit scary. Then again, if you find Madea to be generally terrifying, you may want to skip this one.

05
Inferno
Columbia Pictures

Inferno

Tom Hanks teams up with Felicity Jones for the latest sequel to The Da Vinci Code. Now that Hanks's hair isn't so bizarre-looking, there's officially nothing to be scared of here.

04
The Accountant
Warner Bros.

The Accountant

Ben Affleck plays an accountant who cooks the books for some dangerous people in this thriller costarring Anna Kendrick. You might get a couple of high-tension jump scares, but it's not a "scary" movie.

03
The Girl on the Train
Universal Pictures

The Girl on the Train

While The Girl on the Train movie may not live up to its written counterpart, it's still worthy for your Halloween weekend consideration. The story isn't spooky, but parts of the movie will give you chills.

02
The Unspoken
Lighthouse Pictures

The Unspoken

If you're in select cities, you'll be able to catch this creepy film in limited release. Seventeen years after an entire family disappears from their home, disturbances begin to plague the house. If this makes you go, "Nope," you should probably reverse back up this list.

01
Ouija: Origin of Evil
Universal Pictures

Ouija: Origin of Evil

Finally, Ouija: Origin of Evil might be the only true horror movie in wide release this year. It looks positively freaky, so if you're willing to get your adrenaline pumping, this is your best bet — just don't go alone.
