Resurrection TV Show Review

Pilot Scoop: Resurrection

When you think of people returning from the dead, chances are you picture moaning, groaning zombies. This isn't the case in Resurrection, one of the shows lined up on ABC's midseason TV schedule. Omar Epps stars as a government agent trying to understand what's going on when dead people start appearing out of the blue, looking exactly the same as the day they died. Is the creepy premise well executed? I got a peek at the pilot, so keep reading to find out.

  • What it's about: Jacob, 8, wakes up in a rice paddy in China. He doesn't know how he got there, just that he's from a town called Arcadia. When an immigration agent (Epps) takes him home, Jacob recognizes his parents (Frances Fisher and That '70s Show's Kurtwood Smith), but they claim their son died 30 years ago. As everyone struggles to understand what's going on, things take an even crazier turn when it turns out that Jacob's not the only one to return.
  • Where it works: This show is a fantastic puzzle that sets up so many questions, you'll want to go back for answers. It's also well acted, particularly by Smith and Fisher as parents who want to believe their son has come back to them but are hesitant to accept him.
  • Where it doesn't work: I worry that this premise may be too incredible to have a satisfactory conclusion, but I hope I'm wrong.
  • You might like this show if: You've been looking for a new mystery ever since Lost ended.
  • When it's on: Sundays at 9 p.m. on ABC starting March 9
