What would you put in your time capsule to commemorate the past year? Items that recall our emotions from a particular time period are often tied to the most important people in our lives: our family and friends. The themes of time and friendship are central to The Honor List, a forthcoming film from Lionsgate's Studio L in partnership with POPSUGAR Films. The movie follows a group of former best friends who rediscover the power of friendship after a tragedy as they complete a bucket list from their eighth-grade time capsule, renewing their friendship in the process. Read on to discover what the cast of The Honor List would place in their time capsules, and don't forget to get the film on iTunes on May 11!

For actress Arden Cho, 2017 was a journey toward self-acceptance and love. "2017 was a year of many ups and downs, lots of heartache, and a broken friendship, but it was also a year I really felt loved," she says. "For a lot of my life, I felt unworthy of love, and I think 2017 was the year I learned that I do deserve to be loved — but you have to start with loving yourself first. I would put this necklace I received as a gift — it's an envelope charm with a letter inside that's engraved with the word 'Love.'"

As for the symbolism of the time capsule in the film, Cho believes it comes down to friendship. "I think it really brings everyone together. It's the last thing Honor got to do for her friends. High school can be distracting, people change, and friends can drift apart, but the time capsule brought back old memories and ultimately united old friends, creating an even deeper relationship."

The time capsule theme holds personal significance for Meghan Rienks, whose own experience with a high school bucket list sparked the idea for The Honor List. "So funnily enough, the time capsule in the movie is a nod to a bucket list my best friend Sydney and I made the Summer before freshman year," she says. "While she and I only crossed one thing off of ours, it really encompassed what it's like to be young and have the world at your hands. Which is just how the time capsule in The Honor List is. We have all these different things that represent who each girl is, was, and who they wanted to be by the time it resurfaced. But as they do the list, I think each girl realizes that it's not too late to be the person they want to be."

As for the item that she'd add to her own time capsule? The movie treatment. "This movie has been my brainchild for years," she says. "It's been a solo passion project that turned into a real-life production. It's kind of like every little kid's dream — coming up with a story and watching it grow bigger and bigger than you could ever imagine. It represents hard work and unwavering determination, and it reflects not only how it pays off, but how when you get women together, some badass sh*t happens."

Much like her character, Sophie, Karrueche Tran's faith factored greatly into progress toward her personal goals in 2017. Her theoretical time capsule addition reflects her spirituality. "[I would add] a gold cross necklace that I own," she says. "To me it represents strength and perseverance. To know that I have come this far for a reason and to continue to push myself harder. To always trust in God and know that he is always right there with me. It reflects my growth in 2017 and is a reminder that I am capable and worthy and I can do anything I set my mind to. It's a representation of how far I've come and how much further I will go."

Sasha Pieterse (Who Portrays Isabella)

For Sasha Pieterse, 2017 was a year of tremendous personal growth and discovery, which is why her character Isabella's journey resonated so strongly. For that reason, Sasha's time capsule addition would be a photograph to commemorate the great personal and health strides she has made. "Last year was amazing and also pretty difficult for me, so I think a photo would help put me back in that place," she says. "I found out I had PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and the girls helped me through. I would love to commemorate that."

In this way, Sasha could not have been better prepared for her role. "This movie resonates with a lot of people," she says. "It's about handling grief and dealing with a lot of hard things, and finding people who love you and support you throughout those times."
