Macklemore Sends a Much-Needed Message of Unity and Hope During His Performance on Ellen

Macklemore stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Friday to perform his powerful and emotional new song, "Wednesday Morning." During the simple set, which featured a large screen that flashed political imagery in the background, the rapper sang about the current unrest in the country following the presidential election. While all of the lyrics are powerful, certain lines really strike a nerve: "Imagine tryna keep your head / While your daughter sleeps in bed / And when she wakes up, will the world be the same? / Will my girl be afraid in the home of the brave? Humanity is a privilege, we can't give in / When they build walls, we'll build bridges / This is resistance, we're resilient / When they spread hate, we shine brilliant." Since Ellen also encouraged the country to come together after the election, Macklemore's message is further proof that the host's daily reminder to "be kind to one another" has never been more important.
