This Mom's Photo Proves Postpartum Bodies Aren't Always What They Appear to Be on Instagram

For many new moms, social media can be extremely discouraging. With such pressure to lose weight after giving birth, it's almost impossible not to compare yourself to the beautiful women whose postpartum bodies look straight out of a magazine centerfold. But one blogger from Sweden is reassuring her fans that things aren't always as they appear on Instagram, and it's a comforting message we can all appreciate. Meet Sandra Uhrdin, a mommy blogger who gave birth less than two weeks ago.

Sandra, like many moms, is ready to get her body back after giving birth. But she sees what's out there on social media, how people edit their photos to appear to be something they're not. She wants her followers to "be proud of your mom moments" and not rush through the postpartum journey.

"It takes time for the body to recover after a pregnancy," she captioned the photo above. "It's important to give your body time, no one will be restored overnight 👶🏼 My body has given me two healthy boys and I am forever grateful💙🙌🏻😍 11 days old today!"

In the photo on the left, Sarah has covered her stomach with high-rise leggings, and in the photo on the right, the "reality," she bares her belly in all of its postpartum glory. While we do admire all of the celebrity moms who shed pregnancy pounds so quickly, this woman is reminding her fans that we need to be patient with our bodies, because social media can lead to some unrealistic expectations.

To say that her message was heard would be an understatement. Since posting the side-by-side photos, Sandra's comments are filled with women praising her honesty and relatability.

"Instagram is awful for the mental health after a baby 😩 I'm 17 days postpartum after my third and yes, your reality is also my reality. Thanks for the truth❤️" one person wrote. Another person added: "Amazing! We are the hardest on ourselves with no need to be! Looking incredible holding the little one you grew x."
