Keira Knightley Is Basically a Real-Life Princess in These Photos — but Don't Tell Her That

She may look like a princess in this week's issue of The Edit, but you wouldn't want to call Keira Knightley that. Not after reading her interview with the online magazine and watching the accompanying video, in which she reveals her distaste for the idea that women need to wait for a man to rescue them. She also doesn't have a clue as to why Cinderella wore glass slippers to the ball. "Can you imagine if that broke?" she asks. We can, actually — and it isn't pretty.

As you can probably guess, Keira's interview is equal parts serious and hilarious, but one thing's for sure — this heroine was born to be a leading lady, and she looks the part in a lineup of fantasy-worthy gowns from the likes of Erdem and Valentino. Keep reading for some highlights from the feature and take a look at the stunning photos, but not before watching the actress get a little silly in the video below. (Seriously, did anyone know she was this funny?)

On fairy tales: "It's a political thing, having a baby girl, in a way that it isn't for a boy. You think, 'Oh, isn't this fairy-tale lovely?' Then suddenly you worry, 'What [expectation] am I planting with that? I don't want her to be waiting around for a man to fix her problems.'"

On the roles she chooses: "I've turned a lot [of roles] down because of it, mostly because of really overt sex and violence that is just, in my view, not justified. I'm not saying that there can't be really interesting stories about sex and violence, but a lot of it I just think, 'This is gratuitous for the sake of being gratuitous, and you'd never ask a dude to do this.'"

On whether or not she feels grown up: "I don't know, what's that meant to feel like? There's a concept of how you should be and I'm not sure anybody really fits into it. I hope they don't, because I don't feel like I do."
