When we had the opportunity to chat with the designer herself ahead of the holidays, we tapped right into her expertise to find out just what to get the person who's impossible to shop for and what coat is actually worth the investment. POPSUGAR: How would you define your personal style and how has that shaped your brand?
Tory Burch: A bit classic, a bit sporty, a bit bohemian . . . and always evolving. Our collections reflect that mix — it's all about experimenting and trying new ideas.
PS: Anything you're constantly wearing from your own line — a piece you've designed that you'll never retire from your wardrobe?
TB: I love our tunics. I always remember my mom getting out of the pool, tying her wet hair back, throwing on a caftan, and looking incredibly chic. The first piece I designed for the collection was inspired by a $9 tunic I found in a Paris flea market.

PS: Gift giving can feel rushed around the holidays; what's the best way to make a gift feel personal?
TB: I love finding the perfect present, especially if it makes someone laugh. There is nothing better than giving a vintage book that someone wouldn't buy for themselves and, of course, always with a hand-written note!
PS: What's a timeless holiday gift that never fails?
TB: A beautiful topiary — they last forever and are incredibly festive.
PS: What's an unexpected way to give your outfit a fresh twist for the holidays?
TB: I usually feel that less is more, but for the holidays it is fun to mix and match things that don't ordinarily go together. And I always love an over-the-top earring.

PS: What's the coat to have this season?
TB: I have always wanted a coat that can go from the city to the country, so I am excited about our down puffer for Sport ($450). It is insulated with the highest-quality down — with 800-fill power! — but it's not bulky. And it's water-repellent and wind-resistant with a drawcord at the hem and ribbed cuffs. I also love the message on the inside: Get to the gym! I don't think I'm the only one who needs that reminder in the Winter . . .
PS: What are your favorite Winter activities?
TB: "I have been skiing as long as I can remember, starting with cross country around the farm in Valley Forge where I grew up. I love skiing with my boys, who, years ago, swapped their racing skis for snow boards (sadly for me!)."

PS: What trend are you most looking forward to for 2017?
TB: Floral prints! Colorful, bold, and graphic. We engineered a pink and green garden print inspired by the prep culture of the East Coast in the '60s. I also love our sneakers; one has a ruffle and it is feminine and cool.
