The Most Important Thing to See From NYFW Happened on Zac Posen's Runway

The inspiration behind Zac Posen's Fall 2016 collection was Ugandan Princess Elizabeth of Toro, a black model who graced the cover of Vogue. In the days leading up to his runway show, the designer shared multiple snaps from his mood board, covered in photos of beautiful women — many of them from famous editorials or snapshots. The key element? Diversity.

When it came to casting his show, Posen selected 25 black models of his total 33, including It girls like Cindy Bruna and Viviane Oliveira. He made a statement on Instagram, sharing a black-and-white snap of himself toting designer Ashley B. Chew's CFDA bag, a leather design that reads "Black Models Matter." To elaborate on the lineup of women debuting his new looks, Posen explained:

"Since the inspiration was Elizabeth of Toro it made sense to have a casting reflecting this . . . Their presence and the diversity of the casting complemented the collection and made it more striking. Within this global environment - diversity is very important and it is something that has always been equally important to me as well as a key component of my collections, whether it is shapes, sizes, or skin color."
