You don't have to be a diehard Back to the Future fan to be mesmerized by Nike's newest kicks. After teasing the kind of self-lacing sneakers we first spied in Back to the Future II, Nike is finally making them a reality. You may remember Michael J. Fox showing off a pair last year, but that seemed to be as far as the fantasy sneakers got. This time, with the release of the HyperAdapt 1.0, Nike is making self-lacing technology widely available for holiday 2016. "When you step in, your heel will hit a sensor and the system will automatically tighten," explained Tiffany Beers, Nike's senior innovator and the project's technical lead. "Then there are two buttons on the side to tighten and loosen. You can adjust it until it's perfect."

This is just the first step in revolutionizing lace-ups; Nike hopes to make further enhancements to make the process even more automatic. If you thought fashion was already sneaker-obsessed, this may just send the style — and the rest of the world — over the edge. Watch for a glimpse of what's to come and know this is just the beginning.
