The Motivating Workout Tip We're Definitely Stealing From Julianne Hough

Julianne Hough wears a lot of hats: sister, dancer, and actress are just a few. Yet somehow, between it all, she manages to work out — pretty regularly, too. We recently sat down with the Fitbit Ambassador, and found that her advice for staying motivated to work out is decidely simple and something we can wholeheartedly get behind.

"I definitely have those days where I am just so not in the mood to work out," says Julianne. "But honestly, if I don't feel like getting up and working out, I throw on a really cute workout outfit and the minute I feel like I am dressed and ready, I have a real excuse to go. If I stay in my clothes for the day or in my pajamas I'm never going to get up. So that always helps."

Cute outfit? Sold. I'd be lying if I said my Outdoor Voices leggings weren't somehow the reason I make it to the gym most days. Before you judge, Julianne's idea of a cute outfit has less to do with vanity, and more to do with the transformative power of clothes; feeling good is a mantra she takes with her into every workout.

"I also think about doing it to feel good, rather than to look good. I think [to myself] if I work out today, all those endorphins are going to help me have a better day and be a better version of myself," she adds. "I'll be more inspired and have a better attitude. So having a mental-emotional goal over a physical one always helps me out." Well said, Julianne, well said. We would go as far to say that the biggest benefits of exercise have nothing to do with the way you look.
