Ben & Jerry's Releases Empower Mint Ice Cream to Make a Statement About North Carolina

To kick off its new Democracy Is in Your Hands campaign, Ben & Jerry's released a North Carolina-inspired flavor called Empower Mint. Never shying away from controversy and always remaining politically involved, Ben & Jerry's released a Bernie Sanders ice cream flavor earlier this year, and this time, the Empower Mint flavor is meant to make a statement about the importance of voting rights — North Carolina has one of the strictest voter ID laws in the nation.

In a statement, Ben & Jerry's said, "The company chose North Carolina to launch its newest flavor and 'Democracy Is in Your Hands' campaign because it is at the epicenter of the fight for voting rights in the United States. Almost immediately following the 2013 Supreme Court decision invalidating a critical section of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, North Carolina passed a package of restrictive voting policies that disproportionately impact black, Hispanic, and younger voters."

As for the ice cream itself, it's a flavor that any mint-chocolate lover will go crazy for: peppermint ice cream with just the right amount mint, filled with plenty of chocolate fudge brownies and fudge swirls. It's beyond good.
