Kitchens can all get a little crazy when it comes to organizing. But Style Me Pretty provides us with 10 tips on how to keep our kitchens perfectly organized, 24/7.
The kitchen is the heart of the home, but as such, it's also the epicenter of messes. From jumbled pots and pans to tupperware everywhere, kitchens can get a little crazy. That's where NYC-based professional organizer Tova Weinstock of Tidy Tova comes in. With her 10 tips (originally spotted on Sarah Sarna), your kitchen and pantry will go from organized chaos to just organized.
Clean Out the Pantry at Least Twice a Year
Take a quick look in your pantry and get rid of any food that’s expired or you won’t be using in the future.
Store Items by Frequency of Use
Place everyday dishes on lower shelves and special serving plates or seasonal items on the higher, less accessible shelves.
Divided Utensil Drawers Are a Must
Use drawer dividers to separate different types of kitchen utensils and tools. Keep like items together and make sure all small items are contained in one bin so they can’t get lost.
Make the Most of Vertical Space
Don’t be afraid to use a step stool to maximize space and to store and access lesser-used items.
Keep Like Items Together
Group like items in the pantry by category to keep things orderly and easy to find. Add labels for extra help.
Optimize Cabinet Shelves
Adding under-shelf baskets to the pantry will provide extra space, so keep an eye out for areas where you can add more.
Take Advantage of Back-of-Door Storage
Get aluminum foil and plastic wrap out of the way by stowing them in a well-hidden magazine file.
Don't Be Afraid to Have a Junk Drawer
Creating a catch-all drawer will help you keep counters clear and keep random items together. Just make sure to add drawer dividers so things stay tidy in there.
Designate a Drawer For Food-Storage Containers
Since the various lids and containers can get unruly, stacking food storage containers in a drawer by size will give you a better view of what you have.
Keep an Active Inventory and Shopping List
Make sure to add items as soon as they’re used up, and stay on top of what you own and need. You don’t want to be scrambling for an ingredient when you need it!
