Here's how it works: a thick needle pierces the cork of the unopened wine bottle, and then you press the trigger to pressurize the wine bottle, and release it to pour. There's no cork damage in the glass of wine you've poured, and once you release the Coravin from the bottle, there's no indication that it's been opened. You can turn it upside down and nothing will come out. The wine is preserved using Argon gas, which is an inert gas already present in wine-making.
