Michelle Williams has understandably taken some time off from red carpet events, but last night she was back with a vengeance. She looked happy and gorgeous at the premiere of Adoration in Cannes, a film that stars Scott Speedman and Rachel Blanchard. Michelle herself isn't in the movie, but maybe she just wanted to get a little warm up before the premiere of her Synecdoche, New York at the festival tonight.

Who Wore Red Lips Best at the amfAR Event?

At yesterday's amfAR gala in Cannes, celebrities put on their best gowns to help raise money to fight HIV/AIDS.

At yesterday's amfAR gala in Cannes, celebrities put on their best gowns to help raise money to fight HIV/AIDS. Since one symbol of AIDS awareness is the red ribbon, it's fitting that three of the guests — all with very different personal style — slicked on bold red lipstick. Of Juliette Lewis, Dita Von Teese, and Petra Nemcova, who do you think wears the hue best?

amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS: Carine Roitfeld and Julia Restoin-Roitfeld

I went crazy for Balmain's Fall collection and I'm so thrilled to see Carine Roitfeld and daughter Julia showing major love to the house.

I went crazy for Balmain's Fall collection and I'm so thrilled to see Carine Roitfeld and daughter Julia showing major love to the house. And the house showing major love to them! On her own, Carine is amazing, but with her daughter by her side, they're an unstoppable fashion pair. Are you as in love as I am?

amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS: Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman totally wowed me in this origami-pleat asymmetrical white Givenchy frock at the amFAR event at the Cannes Film Festival.

Natalie Portman totally wowed me in this origami-pleat asymmetrical white Givenchy frock at the amFAR event at the Cannes Film Festival. The layers upon layers of white waves are gorgeous, and I love how she paired the dress with simple accessories and black sandals — just let the dress do all the talking. Two thumbs up for me, how about you?

amfAR Draws Out Many Stars in Cannes

Madonna showed up to the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS benefit in Cannes tonight with Guy Ritchie on her arm, but once inside it was up to her and Sharon Stone to raise money and awareness as the hosts. The bigger fashion plates of the night were the starlets like flapper Diane and Natalie with her ruffles, but how do you feel about all of the red carpet looks? Worst dressed goes to Sharon in her all leopard ensemble, but we really can't be too picky about costume choices since the celebrities got dressed up for such a good cause.

Who Wore It Better? Bohemian Balmain Dress

It's almost as though Balmain's bohemian dress was made for Kate Hudson at the SAG awards, so it's hard to imagine anyone else wearing it.

It's almost as though Balmain's bohemian dress was made for Kate Hudson at the SAG awards, so it's hard to imagine anyone else wearing it. But alas, Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon showed up to the amfAR event at Cannes Film Festival in the same dress. Right off the bat, it's obvious Tamara got spray tanned, so the color palette is very different. She also has more chunky jewelry than Kate. To me, Kate is more believable in boho, but who do you say wore it better?

amfAR's Cinema Against AIDS: Diane Kruger

I oft talk about my love of the '20s flapper era and Diane is the epitome of that time at the amFAR event at the Cannes Film Festival.

I oft talk about my love of the '20s flapper era and Diane is the epitome of that time at the amFAR event at the Cannes Film Festival. From her sleek hair down to her shoes, she's perfection in my eyes. The whisper sequins and train are such lovely details. Do you love or hate?

Remember how mother-to-be model Eva Herzigova looked last year at Cannes? OK, she looked pretty good then, but wowsers — how stunning does she look in this black lace Christian Dior gown? I'm pretty speechless, and blinded, by that diamond necklace. And you?

Well lookie at Madonna in a funky black and sequin fringed couture dress by Chanel at the Cannes Film Festival. Only Madge can pull off such a daring look and still look beautiful. She's projecting some major fierceness and I'm loving it. Do you agree?

Spike Lee vs. the Coen Bros: Valid Point or Unfair Characterization?

The folks covering Cannes over at Cinematical highlighted some statements made by director Spike Lee about certain directors.

The folks covering Cannes over at Cinematical highlighted some statements made by director Spike Lee about certain directors. I was specifically struck by the comment he made about Joel and Ethan Coen (who just won a batch of Oscars for No Country for Old Men):

I always treat life and death with respect, but most people don't. . . Look, I love the Coen brothers; we all studied at NYU. But they treat life like a joke. Ha ha ha. A joke. It's like, "Look how they killed that guy! Look how blood squirts out the side of his head!" I see things different than that.

While it may not be the fairest charge leveled against the Coen Brothers, I do think a discussion about the role of violence in filmmaking (and other forms of entertainment) is one that needs to take place and Lee has a point when he implies that no one is willing to ask the hard questions.

Do you agree with what Spike Lee is saying or do you think it's an unfair bin to toss the Coens into?
