Watch a Brief Trailer For Mad Men Season 6

Brace yourself for 30 seconds of Mad Men bliss — even though bliss for us may mean tragedy for the characters.

Brace yourself for 30 seconds of Mad Men bliss — even though bliss for us may mean tragedy for the characters. A new, short trailer for the sixth season is out, and though we see Don and friends in some moments of glee last season, it wouldn't be Mad Men without the drama. As Don muses, "What is happiness? It's a moment before you need more happiness." I still want to see new footage from the season, but this has my interest piqued for now.

Take a look, and in case you're wondering what that perfectly haunting backtrack is, it's Elle King's "Playing For Keeps." The new season debuts April 7, but until then, check out the trailer after the jump.

4 Reasons You Should Be Watching Top of the Lake

Jane Campion's miniseries Top of the Lake is currently airing on the Sundance Channel, and I'm hooked.

Jane Campion's miniseries Top of the Lake is currently airing on the Sundance Channel, and I'm hooked. Mad Men's Elisabeth Moss takes the reins in the seven-part series as Robin, a New Zealand detective investigating a young girl's disappearance. Tui, the missing 12-year-old girl, is pregnant, and though there are a myriad of questionable men in her life (including Beauty and the Beast's Jay Ryan as her half brother), the baby's paternity is unknown. It could be a straightforward procedural, but Campion (The Piano, Bright Star) weaves a strange and unique mystery. Here's my case for why Top of the Lake should be at the top of your DVR.

  1. The cast is fantastic. Sure, Peggy is a main character on Mad Men, but she's constantly walking in Don Draper's shadow. In Top of the Lake, Moss dons a convincing Kiwi accent as Robin and holds her own as the detective with a past. Holly Hunter also gives a fascinating performance as GJ, the silver-haired leader of a bizarre women's retreat that has taken up residence by the lake.
  2. The scenery is captivating. The show is set in New Zealand, and the landscape is breathtaking. Robin jogs through lush green forests, the lake mentioned in the title is an expansive and dreary yet majestic body of water in the middle of sloping mountains, and its rocky beaches are inhabited by some strange characters.
  3. The tone is ominous and intriguing. As a fan of The Killing, it struck me that not only is Top of the Lake similar in plot, but also in its dark tone. It's just as edgy, but instead of being depressing, it's bizarre. There's rarely sunshine, and there's a creepy overtone to nearly every bit of dialogue.
  4. The pace is perfect. The miniseries originally ran in full at the Sundance Film Festival, but it works really well broken up in parts. Each episode ends on a cliffhanger, and Campion reveals just enough about each character to keep you on your toes.

The Cast of Mad Men Celebrates Their Season Premiere and an Engagement

Last night, the stars of Mad Men previewed the first episode of the upcoming sixth season for a VIP crowd at the Directors Guild of America's LA theater. Jon Hamm, January Jones, Christina Hendricks, and Elisabeth Moss were among the cast members who turned up for the premiere, but there was more than just a new season to celebrate. Their costar Vincent Kartheiser and Alexis Bledel, who had an arc on the show last season, just announced they are engaged! When we caught up with Jon last evening, he told us most of the cast has known about the happy news for a while and are all glad to be able to celebrate it publicly now. Jon attended the premiere with his longtime love, Jennifer Westfeldt, and Christina was joined by her husband, Geoffrey Arend, but Vincent appeared to arrive solo to the screening.

The Mad Men cast and the show's creator, Matthew Weiner, are notoriously tight-lipped about the plot. Still, they assured us that this season of Mad Men, which premieres on April 7, is worth tuning in for. Matthew spoke to us about Jon reprising his role as a director in 2013, Jon told us how portraying Don Draper has changed his life, and Elisabeth Moss talked about what it was like to transition from her 20s to her 30s on screen.

Mad Men's cast of leading ladies hit their season six premiere in LA — and safely covered a number of Spring dress trends with their respective event looks. It's not the stuff you'll see Betty, Peggy, or Megan sporting on screen. January Jones brought a colorblocked pastel blue dress and metallic heels to the red carpet. Elisabeth Moss sported a peplum-trimmed LBD — and a Lucite clutch in hand — and Jessica Paré brought a gorgeous wash of color and print on a fitted sheath dress. The Not-So-Basic Black Dress Strikes Again (and Again) at the SAGs

It's official: we've spotted the not-so-basic black dress trend at not one, not two, but three award shows so far.

It's official: we've spotted the not-so-basic black dress trend at not one, not two, but three award shows so far. We first noticed it at the Critics' Choice Awards, then saw it crop up again at the Golden Globes, and now Claire Danes, Anne Hathaway, and Michelle Dockery (just to name a few) are opting for reinvented and reimagined black gowns at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. We're talking about dresses with sexy sheer cutouts, high-shine embellishments, and strategically placed ruffles. If there's one thing we can take away, it's that 2013 is the year we may take a second look at our go-to black dress in the back of our closets — it's time for an update.

Mauve Mavens: Whose Lipstick Did You Love the Most?

Slightly flushed lips are an easy way to add a natural-looking touch of color, and there were plenty of celebrities sporting the look this week.

Slightly flushed lips are an easy way to add a natural-looking touch of color, and there were plenty of celebrities sporting the look this week. Whether it was worn for a glamourous statement or a casually polished look, this shade had its moment on the red carpet. Jessica Chastain swiped a mauve hue on at the New York screening for Mama, while Elisabeth Moss tested it out at a Sundance Channel event. Also, Kate Bosworth was spotted in the universally flattering lip color, which she paired with pink cheeks. All three ladies kept the rest of their makeup neutral, but whose lip look did you like best?
