Alexander Skarsgard Lets His Dark Side Show as He Talks Welcoming Failure, Meeting His Fans, and True Blood in Interview

Alexander Skarsgard steamed up the pages of Interview's June/July issue with a sexy, suggestive photo shoot alongside a topless model.

Alexander Skarsgard steamed up the pages of Interview's June/July issue with a sexy, suggestive photo shoot alongside a topless model. The actor, who also posed for GQ's latest cover, will return to the small screen June 26 in True Blood's fourth season premiere. In the magazine, Alexander opened up to Arcade Fire's lead singer Win Butler about the love he feels for his fans and why he has no problem facing failure. Alexander doesn't have much falling short to worry about lately, though, with his small-screen success now affecting his movie career. His new film Melancholia was a critical hit at the Cannes Film Festival and the upcoming Straw Dogs remake hits theaters this Fall. He met his girlfriend, Kate Bosworth, on the latter shoot, but didn't discuss their relationship in the issue. Alexander Skarsgard said in Interview:

  • On why he's not tired of True Blood: "I still love it. I was nervous when I first started True Blood because if you do a play or a movie, you know the complete arc of the character. You can see the end. But with a show like True Blood, you don't know what's going to happen. I didn't know how it would be to live with a character for years, because I've never experienced that before. What happens if you wake up after two years, and you're like, 'Oh, God. I'm over this guy?' But the writing is so good, and they keep surprising me."
  • On why he's not afraid to fail: "Failure is awesome. There's a Beckett quote, where he said, 'Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail better.' I love that quote. I think that's what it's all about. Failure is definitely underrated. Just fail again. Fail better."
  • On why he loves his fans: "I think that meeting fans who feel like they know you and they know everything about you is actually very flattering. It means a lot to know that what you're doing actually means something to someone. But the thing that I feel to be a problem potentially is that you become that character, that in the industry, people associate it too closely with who you are and what you can do. I do get a lot of scripts sent to me where they basically want me to play Eric from True Blood, but just a different name in a different movie."

Proenza Schouler Dishes With Chloe Sevigny For Interview Mag

Since their debut fresh out of Parsons at age 23, designers Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough have taken Proenza Schouler from young upstart line to one of fashion's powerhouse brands.

Since their debut fresh out of Parsons at age 23, designers Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough have taken Proenza Schouler from young upstart line to one of fashion's powerhouse brands. They recently sat down with their friend Chloe Sevigny, who once helped Lazaro recover his missing dog Jojo, and revealed the story behind the PS name, their biggest stress, and where they get inspired. Read below, and for the full interview, visit Interview mag.

  • On the company name: Jack: "The whole reason why we even picked that name in the first place was that when we started, Barneys had just bought our collection and we didn't have a name. We thought, Hernandez McCollough? [laughs] Doesn't sound so high end, does it? One of our biggest regrets is the name of our company. It's like alphabet soup. There are so many letters."
  • On pre-collection vs. ready-to-wear: Jack: "The biggest stress these days are these pre-collections. They eat up so much of our time. We just finished the pre-fall collection on Saturday, and we have three weeks to start prepping for Fall/Winter." Lazaro: "The shows are more about creativity, or the purity of the brand. For us it's a creative exercise."
  • On their sources of inspiration: Lazaro: "Travel. Like our Spring collection. We went to India and did all this research and found all these crazy neon colors, and these long saris. We didn't do an Indian collection, but we saw something completely foreign to us, and we took the abstract elements." Jack: "Our strongest collections take many abstract ideas and bring them together in a way that hopefully doesn't look specifically like one thing — or something thematic."
  • On New York and life on the farm: Lazaro: "We have a farm, with animals, and they're sheared every year. We were talking the other day about how it would be cool to take that wool and spin it into yarn and make sweaters." Jack: "We go upstate and sketch these collections. There are no phones ringing. There's no internet really. We're just in our heads and we can actually think." Lazaro: "People say New York is really inspiring and stuff, but for us, New York is a place to get sh*t done."

Amanda Seyfried Gets Nude For Her Interview With Justin Timberlake

Amanda Seyfried posed in romantic Victorian-inspired looks for the March issue of Interview available on newsstands on March 1.
Amanda Seyfried Interviewed by Justin Timberlake For Interview Magazine 2011-02-22 09:51:00

Amanda Seyfried posed in romantic Victorian-inspired looks for the March issue of Interview available on newsstands on March 1. The Red Riding Hood star is prepping for the release of her dark fairy tale and chatted over the phone with Justin Timberlake, her costar in Now, for the magazine. Since they weren't in person, she decided she'd feel more comfortable answering his questions in the nude. Amanda's schedule is filling up quickly as she adds new roles to her plate, which may be one of the reasons she and Ryan Phillippe called it quits on their short-lived romance. Her film with Justin doesn't come out until the Fall, but here are highlights from their conversation::

    • On her decision to act: "I didn't really go into the arts for any specific reason. It was just to find a vessel for all of my energy. And also because I'm not good at anything else. I'm just really not equipped for, say, academics or sports."
    • Justin on his new acting career: "I actually find it liberating to give up control. It's nice for me. What's been more of a battle for me throughout the process of moving into acting is that I feel like I have to keep reassuring people that I'm not an assh*le. There is a stigma that comes from being on stage and being a musician."
    • Amanda on her red wig: "I do think it was one of the best ideas to do this movie with a red wig because, I have to say, a lot of the studios, they buy a blonde. They keep saying, 'We bought a blonde.' And that can be really frustrating because that's not what I am."
    • Amanda on working with brilliant actors: "I'm constantly attracted to people who are too smart for their own good and who have it all together, because I can't relate to that, so I can just kind of jump on their train."

Rihanna Gets Frisky With Flowers For Interview Magazine!

There's no doubt that Rihanna is a style chameleon; she takes risks left and right and switches up her look with each new album.

There's no doubt that Rihanna is a style chameleon; she takes risks left and right and switches up her look with each new album. Her latest editorial for the December 2010 issue of Interview — shot by Mikael Jansson — pays tribute to the singer's sartorial fearlessness. She is the queen of her Parisian castle, surrounded by beautiful flowers and draped in Chanel, Jil Sander, and Louis Vuitton. The spread also features some serious statement accessories — I am loving the giant agate earrings, gold cuff bracelets, and bedecked leather harness — and Rihanna wears each piece like a total diva. Step inside to view all of the stunning shots.

Ryan Gosling Strikes a Sexy Interview Pose as Himself, Not Ryan Reynolds

A perfect treat for Monday morning — Ryan Gosling, looking hot as ever, on the cover of November's Interview!

A perfect treat for Monday morning — Ryan Gosling, looking hot as ever, on the cover of November's Interview! The actor chose his Crazy, Stupid, Love costar Steve Carell to ask the questions, after they got close while shooting together earlier this year. Ryan has been busy lately working on Drive with Carey Mulligan, but now he's making the magazine rounds to chat up his All Good Things with Kirsten Dunst and Blue Valentine with Michelle Williams. He spoke about their films and also touched on his start in Canada and how people often think he's Ryan Reynolds. Ryan said:

    • On people thinking he's Ryan Reynolds: "I get that a lot—and I do think it's because we're both Canadian. I can't tell you how many times people go, 'Are you Ryan?' And I go, 'Yeah.' And they say, 'Can I get a picture?' Then they take the picture and realize, in that moment, that I'm not Ryan Reynolds. I can see the disappointment in their faces."
    • On his start in Canada: "My sister and I used to sing at weddings. We would sing 'When a Man Loves a Woman' to the bride. We'd do it right before the garter ceremony. While the bride was sitting on the chair, I would get down on my knees and sing the song, and then my sister would sing another song, and then together we would sing 'Old Time Rock & Roll.' Then sometimes if we were really killing it, I'd sing 'Runaround Sue.'"
    • On being on the Mickey Mouse Club: "It was kind of depressing because when I got there, they realized that I wasn't really up to snuff in comparison with what some of the other kids were able to do. I remember one time they put four of us in a dance routine, but I was so off. I was on the end, so they just pushed the shot in closer on the other three guys to frame me out. I would just come in at the beginning of the show and then come back at the end, and occasionally I'd have a sketch here or there, but I didn't end up working that much, which was disheartening."

Christopher Bailey and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Talk Loyalty and the Burberry Family

Hours before showing his spring 2011 menswear collection in Milan, Christopher Bailey chatted with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (who appears in Burberry's current campaign) for Interview magazine about the tight-knit Burberry family, a new beauty line, and his obsession with acoustic music.

In the past year and a half, Bailey has won Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards and the prestigious International Award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Since 2001 he has been busy revolutionizing the house of Burberry—designing every collection, influencing the architecture of the brand's new headquarters, producing fragrances, launching a cosmetics line, scouting young bands for Burberry Acoustic, informing one of the most aggressive digital offerings to come from a fashion brand, and founding a charity with Burberry's CEO.

He's also fiercely loyal to his Burberry team, having worked with many of the same people (such as Mario Testino) since day one. Bailey explains, "I don’t like that idea of working with somebody one season and then it’s over. To me that feels somewhat superficial. . . When you’re loyal to somebody, you have a real mutual respect. And with that respect comes freedom and being open to talk very honestly with each other."

At the moment we're feeling a deep loyalty as well—to Bailey's fall 2010 collection aviator jackets:

Carey Mulligan on Walking in LA: People Think You're a Hooker

Carey Mulligan, the charming British actress from An Education sat down with Susan Sarandon for an actor-on-actor interview.

Carey Mulligan, the charming British actress from An Education sat down with Susan Sarandon for an actor-on-actor interview. The two costar in The Greatest, which premiered at 2009's Sundance but was only released in the US this month.

These celebrity-on-celebrity interviews can be amusing, as a celebrity who's been the interviewee hundreds of times suddenly becomes the interviewer. But I have no complaints about Sarandon's job in Interview magazine. She got an amazing anecdote out of Carey about the paparazzi!

Here are some of the highlights:

  • On walking in LA: "People do sort of look at you like you’re a hooker because it’s so rare to see someone just walking.
  • On New Yorkers: "People turned out to be nicer than I thought they’d be. In London, people can be so . . . well, it’s not even a case of people being unkind or unfriendly. You just don’t make any contact in London. You go from A to B with your eyes on the pavement. I think New York is more social, and I didn’t expect that."
  • On keeping a low profile with boyfriend Shia LaBeouf: "I don’t really talk about it, but I think it’s probably easier in New York. In LA, it’s a little bit harder — especially if you don’t drive, because you’re just more exposed."
