Later on in the day, Carey headed out of their hotel solo to do a little more promotion for The Great Gatsby, sharing a story about her embarrassing first meeting with the producer of the soundtrack, Jay-Z.

Carey visited Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to chat about taking on the role of Daisy Buchanan and her A-list collaborators on the project. She told Jimmy that she met Jay-Z at the NYC premiere of the movie last week, but that the introduction didn't go very smoothly. "I built it up in my head," she said. "He was so nice, and he reached out to shake my hand . . . and I went sort of blank." Carey said that she got so flustered, she awkwardly told Jay, "I know you . . ." before dissolving into nervous giggles. On Saturday night, Carey followed up her visit with Jimmy by joining her costars and director Baz Luhrmann to preview The Great Gatsby for a VIP group that included Katy Perry and Gwen Stefani. The film hits theaters in the US on Friday and will open the Cannes Film Festival on May 15.

It's been a busy — and star-studded — few days in NYC for Jake Gyllenhaal! The couple has been splitting time between the Big Apple and their home in London since Marcus wrapped up the first leg of an overseas tour with his band, Mumford & Sons, earlier this month. While in Manhattan last week, Carey hit the red carpet in a Victoria Beckham suit for the Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Ball, where she partied with Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Hudson, and Michelle Williams. She also graces the cover of Vogue's May issue while channeling her Great Gatsby character, Daisy Buchanan. The next few weeks will likely be a busy time for the couple. Mumford & Sons sets off for the remainder of their world tour in Canada, and are nominated at next month's Billboard Music Awards, while Carey will begin making the press rounds for Great Gatsby ahead of its May 10 release.

Taylor Swift kept the fun going last night when she attended a Brit Awards afterparty sponsored by Universal Music in London. She got down on the dance floor with Frank Ocean and giggled in a VIP area with fellow Brit Award performer Marcus Mumford and his wife, Carey Mulligan. Taylor also broke out some of her record-spinning moves to take over the DJ booth with James Corden, Ellie Goulding, and Ellie's boyfriend, Jeremy Irvine.

Taylor partied the night away despite losing the international female solo artist award to Lana Del Rey earlier in the evening. However, Taylor's performance during the show earned her rave reviews, even from ex-boyfriend Harry Styles, who said Taylor Swift's performance was "great." He added, "She always puts on a good show."

They're on the go after Marcus and his band wrapped up their LA appearances. Mumford and Sons performed at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday and Monday, and now they have a quick break before resuming their show in the UK next week. The tour takes them to the East Coast in February and demand for tickets has been so high that they added additional dates in New York, Virginia, and New Jersey.

Marcus has the company of his wife since her own upcoming project was recently pushed back. The Great Gatsby was supposed to be released over the holidays, but is now expected on the big screen in May 2013. First, though, Carey's Inside Llewyn Davis will hit theaters in February, and she'll also get started working on Hold On to Me with Robert Pattinson.

Last night's White House State Dinner, hosted by President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama in honor of visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron and his wife Samantha, was a star-studded affair. George Clooney brought out a tuxedo for the occasion, after testifying about his experiences in Sudan and South Sudan to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee earlier in the day. Homeland star Damian Lewis arrived with his wife Helen McCrory while Sir Richard Branson also posed for photographs on his way into the event. John Legend was on hand as a performer, but also enjoyed the dinner with fiancé Chrissy Teigen, who tweeted pictures throughout the evening, including one shot of John's shirt after he spilled on himself. The other musical entertainment came from Mumford & Sons since David and Samantha are apparently fans of the British band. Carey Mulligan carried a Dolce & Gabanna bag as she arrived at the New York Times building in NYC with her fiancé Marcus Mumford yesterday. Carey participated in the NYT's Times Talks during their Arts & Leisure Weekend, and she chatted about doing her first nude scene with Michael Fassbender in Shame. Carey said, "I don't think if you held a gun to my head I would do sexy naked, but raw naked in this bit. . . it serves the purpose. By the time I was doing it, I really didn't feel nervous at all, which was so weird. I thought for a while, 'Oh, I'll go to the gym.' Then after a while I ended up not doing that."

She also shared about her love of the theater, though she's currently focused on the big screen since she's been in Australia filming The Great Gatsby. Carey showed off her diamond ring Down Under last Fall after becoming engaged to Marcus, who is the lead singer of Mumford & Sons.
