Jennifer Lawrence dropped by the Late Show in NYC yesterday following her big win at the Golden Globes on Sunday. In conversation with host David Letterman, Jennifer responded to critics who felt that she disrespected Meryl Streep in her acceptance speech on Sunday night when she said, "I beat Meryl!" Of course, Jennifer was quoting The First Wives Club, but she was nonetheless apologetic about her joke. She said, "It's never a good idea for me to wing it." Jennifer added that she was confused so many people found her joke offensive. She explained, "I was like, is that what this turned into? I don't like Meryl Streep? As if I've had my eyes on getting that girl forever and I was like, 'Finally! I knew it would happen one day!'"

It wasn't the first time that Jennifer slipped a movie quote into her acceptance speech. Last week at the People's Choice Awards, Jennifer referenced Mean Girls while accepting the favorite actress award, saying she wanted to break her statue apart and hand it out to everyone in the audience. Jennifer may have more quotable moments this weekend — Jennifer's hosting Saturday Night Live this Saturday, Jan. 19.

Katie Holmes covered up a hot pink dress with a coat as she arrived at the Late Show in NYC today. She posed for photos and waved to fans before heading inside to chat with David Letterman. It's been an exciting week for Katie, who celebrated her 34th birthday at a sweet shop with daughter Suri and later performed in Dead Accounts. Katie was all smiles as she emerged after her evening on Broadway and even stopped to sign autographs for the waiting crowd.

Katie will soon be celebrating the holidays, but she may be doing so without Suri. Tom Cruise recently revealed that all three of his kids, including Suri, will be with him for Christmas, saying, "We have got lots of very special things planned. We are all going to be together. I am looking forward to it."

Tom Cruise swung by the Late Show in NYC last night as part of his promotional tour for Jack Reacher. While on the show, Tom seemed a bit scandalized when host David Letterman dropped the f-bomb on him unexpectedly. Tom and Dave started their interview discussing having "the talk" with their kids, and Dave revealed that while he hasn't addressed sex yet, he's already had a conversation with his son Harry about dirty words. Dave explained, "I said, 'Harry, do you know dirty words?' And he says, 'Well, I know the s-word.' . . . And I said, 'And the f-word?' And he said 'F**k.'" The f-word was bleeped on the show, but it sent Tom into a fit of laughter. Tom said, "I'm just thinking, someone's got the plug — and they're pulling it [on this show]."

The past week has been a busy one for Tom, despite having to cancel his Jack Reacher premiere in Pittsburgh due to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The Pittsburgh premiere, which was supposed to take place last Saturday, has been rescheduled for Dec. 19. An NYC screening and event honoring Tom that was supposed to take place yesterday has not yet been given a new premiere date. The film will hit theaters on Dec. 21.

Scarlett Johansson wore Giambattista Valli last night for a visit to the Late Show in NYC. She chatted with host David Letterman about her new movie, Hitchcock, which opens in the US on Friday. Her costar Jessica Biel was on the Late Show, too, this week, but left the Big Apple in order to attend yesterday's LA screening. Scarlett, who's reportedly newly dating French journalist Romain Dauriac, pretaped a chat with Dave that actually airs tonight. This is a big week for Scarlett, and not just because she has a film coming out. Scarlett's birthday is tomorrow, on Thanksgiving — she'll be 28!

Jessica Biel swung by the Late Show studios in NYC last night to chat up her new movie, Hitchcock, with host David Letterman. She's had a busy few days of press for the film, which is out on Friday. Jessica granted interviews at a junket all day Sunday, then donned an Oscar de la Renta pantsuit to attend the premiere that night alongside costars Helen Mirren and Scarlett Johansson at Manhattan's Ziegfeld Theatre. For her chat with David, Jessica donned another bold look in a Roland Mouret dress. She recalled a nightmare spa night in which she saw some "husky" guys relaxing nude in a sauna. Jessica told of her horror to see "balls on wood."

Emma Watson wore a Tom Ford jacket and shoes to stop by the Late Show With David Letterman yesterday in NYC. She chatted about her upcoming film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival ahead of its Sept. 20 release. Host David Letterman asked Emma about the film, which addresses heartbreak. Emma responded, "It's a right of passage . . . [that] first boyfriend who breaks up with you and you think the world is going to end. It's awful — everyone has some version of that." The 22-year-old star may be best known as Hermione from the Harry Potter series, and she addressed breaking out of that mold in the October issue of Glamour. Next up for Emma will be a trek to LA, where she'll be in attendance at tonight's MTV VMAs.
