Sofia Vergara on Her Modern Family Role: "It Has Opened Many Other Doors For Latin Actors"

Sofia Vergara didn't walk the red carpet at the 2017 People's Choice Awards, but she made it into the ceremony just in time to accept the award for favorite comedic TV actress. Sitting in the front row with her son, Manolo, Sofia fist pumped when her name was called, getting on stage to eloquently express how her major TV role has made an impact.

"My English is not going to be so good this time so sorry," Sofia started her thank-you speech. "Never in a million years, I thought that with this ridiculous accent I was ever going to be able to part of something so successful, something so loved by all of you, like it's Modern Family," she continued before saying her role as Gloria in the sitcom has changed her career and "open so many other doors for Latin actors," reinforcing there is much more to do. Sofia's speech is poignant after a joke making her fun of her accent at this year's Golden Globes backfired, receiving backlash from fans. Press play above to watch Sofia's powerful words at the PCAs.
