Rosalía Stole the Show at the VMAs With a Medley That Showed Off Her Voice and Dance Moves
Can we just say Rosalía won the VMAs? While yes, all the performances this year were exceptional, and every single artist came to slay, Rosalía not only sang in Spanish during an American show but also had everyone mesmerized with her vocal range and ability and her clean dance moves. Her performance also featured a special appearance by el negrito ojos claros, Ozuna, who had the whole Prudential Center screaming so loudly, I could barely hear the music!
Rosalía surprised with a medley that began with "A Ningún Hombre," a powerful flamenco that talks about not letting any man rule your life, which she executed with a lot of passion and intensity that was clear in her voice. It was a very powerful moment, because even though most people there couldn't understand what she was saying, they were feeling her intentions and going on that emotional ride with her.
The fact that the song was a flamenco, which represents Rosalía's Spanish roots, made the performance a lot more special, proving once again that music is the universal language.
To lighten things up, Ozuna came on stage to join Rosalía in performing their new single "Yo x Ti, Tu x Mi," and it only took him opening his mouth for the crowd to go wild. While Ozuna sang his part, Rosalía continued to accompany the act with her stylized dance moves, a mix of flamenco and modern, until she joined him with the vocals to finish that part of the medley.
Rosalía, Ozuna, and the dancers all wore custom Burberry designs by Riccardo Tisci during their performance. Rosalía's custom-made Burberry black velvet and satin duvet cape and black velvet and mesh corset top were personalized with "Rosalía" in hand-embroidered crystals. She complemented the look with a black sheer-jersey leotard, black sheer-jersey pants, knee-length black socks, and crystal ring detail hoop earrings. Ozuna wore a custom-made Burberry black crystal embroidered English-fit grain de poudre wool tuxedo, black cotton-poplin shirt, and crystal embroidered Arthur sneakers. Meanwhile, the dancers were decked out in custom-made Burberry black logo jersey crop tops and leggings, black nylon bucket hats, and Union sneakers.
