Modern Family's Ariel Winter Gets Candid About Her Breast Reduction Surgery

Ariel Winter had been going through physical and mental pain for years. Why? "I was 15 years old with [size] F [breasts]," the Modern Family star told Glamour magazine in an exclusive interview. Not only did she have to deal with commentary from online bullies and trouble finding clothes that fit, but she also was going through painful back problems. "It started to hurt so bad that I couldn't take the pain," the star told Glamour. Winter took control of the issues she was facing and decided to get a breast reduction surgery.

Now, the star is happy and comfortable in her own skin. Winter is proud of her scars and had no problem letting them show at the 2016 SAG Awards. She rocked a black dress with a plunging back and looked utterly amazing. She later posted a quote on Instagram to encourage others to embrace who they are and how they look.

The actress has decided to share her story so that others could understand that she made a change for the better. "Having told only a select few family and friends, she underwent surgery to reduce the size of her chest from a 32F to a 34D," the magazine explained.

"I didn't want to not tell anybody and then have another million stories [say], 'What happened to Ariel? She looks so different,'" Winter said. "And I also think there's some good that can come from [telling] my story. It's something that I did to better my life and better my health, and I think that can benefit a lot of young girls. I have felt happier with myself than I ever have. I am living a dream that a lot of girls my age would love to be living, and I'm aware of that. I'm really grateful that I'm able to do that and have a voice that I'm able to speak to teenagers. I don't want to do anything to mess that up."
