This Woman Gave Her Dad a "Certificate of Purity" on Her Wedding Day to Prove Her Virginity

Many people choose to abstain from sex until marriage (you do you!), but one newlywed is creating quite the conversation around her above-and-beyond decision. On her wedding day, Brelyn Bowman gave her dad a "certificate of purity" to prove her virginity. What does that mean, you ask? It means she went to the doctor to be examined and receive written proof that her vagina was, in fact . . . unpenetrated, and she gave the proof to her dad in the form of a certificate.

The bride shared a photo of a father-daughter dance with the caption, "Another one of my favs! Dancing with my first love! I was able to present a certificate of purity to him signed by my doctor that my hymen was still intact. Also the covenant he gave me when I was 13. When you honor God, your life will automatically honor others! I love you daddy @drmikefreeman"

Brelyn's father, pastor Mike Freeman, spoke to BuzzFeed Life and said, "Brelyn stopped the reception" and "shared that she wanted to honor me by not allowing any man to touch her before her husband."

Brelyn has been vocal about her decision on her Instagram with over 26,000 followers, and the photos have been reposted by other accounts and gained thousands of comments, both good and bad. The groom, Tim Bowman Jr., is a popular gospel singer and is just as happy about all the attention the couple is getting. Brelyn and her sister both gave their dad purity certificates, while their brother broke his pact. "It’s not about what they did for me, rather what they did for themselves," the father told BuzzFeed Life.

Brelyn wants to use this viral experience to spread the word about premarital sex.

She shared this photo on Instagram with the caption, "We're soooo grateful for the love and support!! So excited to share our story and encourage others to wait! ❤️ it's not too late to wait, make a decision today!"

And Brelyn's husband, Tim, is just as excited about the conversation their wedding is creating.

He wrote, "All we can say is thank you!!! Thank you Jesus for creating the opportunity to share this purity message to believers and non-believers. Thank you to everyone who are bold enough to stand up and rock with us!"
