Trust Us, You've Never Seen a Bridesmaid Quite Like 89-Year-Old Nana Betty

When picking bridesmaids, brides-to-be usually consider a few questions. Who are my closest friends? Who has supported me through thick and thin, especially in my relationship with my fiancé? And finally, which friends do I want standing next to me on the biggest day of my life? For bride Christine Quinn, the person who checked each of these boxes is her best friend . . . who also happens to be her 89-year-old grandmother, Nana Betty.

"While she doesn't live that close, we have continually made it a point to spend as much time together as possible," Quinn told the Huffington Post of her special bond with Nana Betty. "She just has an amazing sense of humor and outlook on life that I strive to emulate every day. Everyone loves her." While it's a little out of the ordinary, it was the obvious choice for Nana Betty to serve as one of her granddaughter's bridesmaids.

"Nana Betty could keep up with the non-stop shenanigans (read non-stop laughter)," wrote wedding photographer Sweetwater Portraits in a blog post about the big day. Betty, who wore the same dusty-purple gown as the rest of Quinn's bridal party, positively glowed with joy during the festivities — and she kept the celebrations raging into the night. "Nana got on the party bus with the rest of the wedding party. . . . She also danced the entire night away, including an adorable moment when she and my husband's grandmother, Bellsie, danced together," said the bride. "It was amazing."

So if you're hesitating to ask somebody special to join your bridal party, don't let convention stop you — sometimes, the very best choice has been there for your entire life (and then some)!
