See the Shocking Family Surveillance Video That Caught a 5-Year-Old Saving Her Mom's Life

Five-year-old Allison Anderwald is small for her age, but thanks to learning how to swim at the age of 2, she just saved her mother's life — and it was all caught on family surveillance video.

Allison and her mom, Tracy Anderwald, 34, were swimming in her aunt's backyard on Friday, when Allison realized that her mom had not come up from underwater for a few minutes — Tracy had experienced a seizure and was unconscious. Allison swam over to her, pulled her to the shallow end, and made sure her head was out of the water before running into the house to get help. Tracy was rushed to the hospital, where doctors explained to her family that had she been in the water any longer, she may not have survived.

Although the doctors had low expectations for Tracy's recovery, as they initially thought she might have some neurological damage, Tracy woke up Saturday morning and was discharged by Tuesday. The doctors will, however, follow up to figure out what caused the seizure in the first place.

"Allison's been swimming since she was two-and-a-half," Tracy told ABC. "She's our little mermaid and my little hero."
