Photo of Children Climbing on Vietnam Women's Memorial Sparks Controversy

It's not always easy to keep kids' attention during grown-up functions or trips, but many people think that there are times and places for children to be allowed to roam free. This recently taken photo of children playing on the Vietnam Women's Memorial is sparking debate — is it harmless fun, or should the parents have known better than to let their children climb on such a meaningful memorial?

The image was captured by artist Matthew Munson, who was visiting Washington DC, and he uploaded a few pictures of his trip to his Facebook page. He wrote, "I managed to take some decent photos and even a very powerful one of two little brats climbing over war memorial right in front of a veteran. It was a sobering moment." Munson said there were many people glaring at the parents, and when veterans walked right up and saw the children playing, "they looked more hurt than angry. They were quiet."

"I assumed the parents would have some common sense and respect and take their kids off of the memorial," he wrote on his Facebook.

The photo has since gone viral and caused a debate online about how children should act around significant areas like memorials. The Vietnam Women's Memorial is dedicated to the women of the United States who served in the Vietnam War, most of whom were nurses. The structure depicts three women in nurse uniforms helping a wounded soldier. What do you think of the photo?
