Why This Disturbing Video of a Baby Being Flung by Arms and Legs Is Going Viral

It made headlines in 2011, and the shocking "extreme baby yoga" practice is back.

A new, disturbing video has surfaced on Facebook, showing a woman in Russia swinging an infant — just a few months old — back and forth. It's sparked outrage on social media, with many calling it a blatant form of child abuse masquerading as a wellness technique.

Indeed, the graphic imagery of a newborn being flung by his arms and legs is disturbing, but for those seeking punishment for the woman in question, they should know that it's been implemented in Russia for three decades. The original baby yoga guru, a 54-year-old Russian woman named Lena Fokina, has been practicing what she calls "dynastic gymnastics" on babies as young as 2 weeks old.

Proponents — yes, many parents from across Europe have paid Fokina, a physical education teacher, to perform those same moves on their infants — believe that this form of yoga is not only safe but helps children with mobility, increases blood flow to the joints, spurs growth, and aids in muscular and skeletal problems.

We had hoped that the outrage four years ago would have put a halt in this seemingly dangerous practice, but instead, it looks to be becoming something even worse . . . a trend.
