Why the Internet Just Shamed This Baby

With 44,000 followers and unbelievably adorable photos, 10-month-old Landon Lee might just be your newest Instagram obsession.

But despite his perfect outfits, piercing eyes, and irresistible smile, some across the internet are more interested in fat shaming the sweet baby than celebrating his cuteness.

Landon's mom, Jessica Benton, first started a separate Instagram account for precious snapshots of her baby boy to avoid oversharing on Facebook and was shocked when a stranger took one of his photos and posted it to his own page as a joke. The photo was shared with a new caption that read, "Stuff Curry" as a mean-spirited play on Stephen "Steph" Curry's name. Online users continued to make fat-shaming jokes about the baby boy and when Jessica reached out to the user, he blocked her and refused to take it down.

Strangers calling her son a "fatass" and leaving comments questioning her parenting skills weren't even the worst part for Jessica. The Texas mom had a 20-year-old son who was the victim of high school bullying and committed suicide while she was pregnant with Landon. Now, instead of peers attacking her child, it's complete strangers and it's happening before he has even turned 1 year old. "I want to protect my children probably 100 times more than the average mum because our family has been affected by suicide, one of the worst things a family can go through," she said. "I don't want another child hurt."

Although Jessica initially set Landon's account to private after the incident, she decided to take control of the situation and try to turn it into something positive. The strong mama ordered a "Stuff Curry" jersey to embrace his meme and is continuing to post amazing photos of her son. "You never know how deeply your words can affect somebody else — people have no filter online and it's really sad," she added. "I hope that when Landon gets older he stands up for other people who are bullied."
