The Shocking Reason This Dad Shot and Killed His Own Son

In a tragic mishap, a 14-year-old boy was shot and killed by his own father.

At around 6:30 a.m., Georta Mack left for school but quickly returned. His father didn't realize that his son had snuck back in the house, so when he heard a noise in the basement, he grabbed a handgun.

Cincinnati police said that the dad fired the gun when he was startled at the basement steps and shot his son in the neck. The teen was pronounced dead after being rushed to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. "These types of tragedies are so horrific, they're even unimaginable," Police Chief Eliot Isaac said.

The father's name has not been released, but a friend of the teen said Georta and his dad had a strong relationship. "They had a really close bond. His dad would do anything for him," Courizma Williams said. "His dad always wanted to keep him out of the streets, keep him from being bad — you know, keep him safe."

While prosecutors decide whether or not to charge the father in his son's death, Isaac urges anyone who is keeping a firearm in their home to get proper training.
