Is Fergie's New "M.I.L.F. $" Video an Empowerment Anthem For Moms?

Well if she wanted to come back in a big way, that's exactly what Fergie did with her new "M.I.L.F. $" video that debuted over the holiday weekend. A celebration of sexy moms everywhere who are cashing in on their success, in Fergie's case, M.I.L.F. stands for Mother I'd Like to Follow (a hat tip to the power of social media), rather than the traditional definition of the term. The 1950s housewife-themed video is chock-full of celebrity mom cameos doing mom-like things like pushing a stroller, getting their kids buckled into a minivan, setting up a lemonade (or, in this case, a milk) stand, and breastfeeding.

Yup, the video features Chrissy Teigen breastfeeding her 2-month-old daughter, Luna, while a milkman gawks at her.

It also shows Kim Kardashian taking a milk shower (though, not in the traditional sense) and Fergie taking a milk bath (a popular trend for new baby photos).

While the video shows a bunch of beautiful moms in some powerful positions, some think the "mom power" message is lost in all of the sexiness. "Changing the acronym to 'Moms I'd Like To Follow' is about empowering women who do it all," Fergie told Entertainment Weekly. "They have a career, a family, and still find the time to take care of themselves and feel sexy. With a wink of course." But some moms are calling foul on that message, saying the video is sexualizing breastfeeding and idealizing the "perfect body."

I, for one, am not sure that either is the case. Is it empowering? Probably not. The women in the video aren't doing anything that screams girl (or mom) power — with the exception of Alessanda Ambrosio who poses with her daughter for a "Got Milk"-like photo shoot. Otherwise, it is nothing more than a fun and overtly sexy video showing that moms don't lose their sex appeal once they have kids. And as for the breastfeeding shot? I wouldn't expect anything less of Chrissy Teigen at this point — she's single-handedly making new motherhood funny again.
