An Alaskan family was faced with a terrible reality no parent should have to bear: their baby was on the brink of death and was in desperate need of a heart to survive.
The parents of baby Lincoln had been waiting since November for a donation to save his life. Lincoln was born with a rare birth defect that causes all of his organs to be on the opposite side of his body. He was operated on immediately after his birth, and doctors hoped that surgery would save his life. However, months later his heart began to give way.
They flew to Portland, OR, for treatment, and doctors made it clear it could take up to 90 days to receive a heart. In the last days of treatment, the family began to fear that their baby was out of time. But in the 11th hour, with doctors' hands compressing his bare heart, his new one was already en route to save his life.
Striking before and after photos show Lincoln's hands morbidly blue a day before his transplant but then immediately revived only a day after receiving his new heart. While he still has a long road to recovery ahead, his parents are forever grateful for the family of the child who donated the heart. Lincoln is proof that miracles really can happen. Keep on watching to hear more of the family's touching story.
