I Gave My Mom an Unexpected Gift For the Holidays, and She Loved It
During the holidays, parents put so much pressure on themselves to make the festivities run smoothly and find the perfect gifts. They are often so quick to judge themselves that they don't realize they're doing an amazing job keeping everything together and ensuring everyone is happy. This year, I felt that my mom needed a special reminder that her tremendous efforts weren't going unnoticed. Instead of overspending on a material gift, I decided to write her a heartfelt note that shows her how much of an impact she has on my life. She was completely blown away by how thoughtful and unexpected it was, and her reaction was priceless. It was definitely the best thing I could've given her. If you want to give your parent a nontraditional but caring gift, I'd suggest writing a letter, too — here's mine.
Dear Mom,
To say your endless love and support means the world to me is an understatement. I truly don't know what I would do without your guidance each and every day. You know the value of balancing parenting and friendship, and for that I'm thankful.
I want you to know that everything you do doesn't go unnoticed. Your actions have been important in shaping my own, and I look to you as the example of how I want to live my life. I admire your ability to not judge others and your compassion toward family, friends, and strangers alike. Not only are you doing good, you're doing the best there possibly is.
Putting a smile on your face and spreading the joy you so graciously give me is the most fulfilling part of being your daughter. I hope to continue making you proud. Thank you for being you.
