This Inspirational Story About a Young Girl and Her Great Dane Will Warm Your Heart

Any human who's had a dog can tell you that it's one of the best friendships you can have. Dogs are always there for you, are always attuned to your feelings, and it's impossible to explain, but they always know when you need them — 11-year-old Bella can tell you all about this type of friendship, as she's just developed one with her Great Dane, George, who has helped to make her more self-sufficient as she battles Morquio syndrome, an incurable and rare genetic disorder that affects bone growth.

Up until last year when the two met at the Service Dog Project in Massachusetts, Bella was unable to walk around on her own without crutches or a wheelchair, but now that she's got George to lean on — literally and figuratively! — she's a happy girl with new energy and confidence. The little lady and her pup spend every day together and have quite the routine, which includes George helping her to and from her classes at school (adorably sleeping behind her desk while she learns) and around the family's home. Every night the inseparable pair snuggles up in bed together before doing it all over again.
