This Little Girl's Reaction to Her Dad Transitioning Is Unexpected — but Everything You'd Hope For

After being asked how her 6-year-old daughter handled the news that her husband is transgender, Shalee Ellis decided to share the exact conversation with the world — and the little girl's response is beyond beautiful.

The proud mother started recording halfway through her candid discussion with Layla as she explained that her dad was going to be transitioning from a man to a woman. "Daddy doesn't feel happy as a boy," Shalee told her daughter in the clip shared on Facebook. "We have decided to help Daddy become the person that his brain and his heart tell him that he really is."

Shalee told BuzzFeed that her little girl had absolutely no difficulty understanding that her daddy's gender identity didn't matter, and her immediate response to the news shows this unconditional love.

Not only does she approve of her dad wearing new clothes and makeup and growing out her hair, this little girl gave a big thumbs up to her daddy's new name, Mallory. Layla declared, "Daddy, I love you so much — even though you're a her, I still love you!"
