This 6-Year-Old Used His Make-A-Wish to Do Something Incredible

When 6-year-old Levi Mayhew was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder last year, he quickly lost the ability to walk, speak, and experience day-to-day activities without assistance. His disorder, which lies on the Zellweger spectrum, is fatal — medical experts don't expect him to live beyond his eighth birthday. But despite all of the struggles that little Levi is facing, there is a bright spot in his young life: his best friend, Emma. Ten-year-old Emma Broyer is one of Levi's schoolmates and over the past year has been his biggest supporter. By writing him cards, painting pictures, and encouraging classmates to do the same, she has lifted Levi's spirits during the darkest time of his life. So in return for her many kindnesses, Levi surprised Emma with something incredible.

Instead of using his wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation on himself, Levi decided to spend it on his best friend. Because he is too sick to travel, Levi and his family asked the organization to send Emma on a trip of every child's dreams — Disney World! Emma was totally surprised by Levi's selfless gesture, the boy's mother said: "No one had a dry eye as Emma thanked and hugged Levi." The Make-A-Wish Foundation arranged for Emma's family's grand getaway, including limo rides and beach trips during their visit to Florida.

"It felt so good to give back to this little girl," Levi's mother said, explaining their decision to transfer the wish. "Emma had given so much to us without even realizing it. It's a very warm feeling to know that another child loves and cares so much for your child, especially while facing the challenges stacked against us. It's so innocent and pure. If Angels really do walk the earth, Emma is one. She's Levi's angel."

Since Levi couldn't join Emma on the vacation, she brought him along in a different way. Throughout the vacation, she posed with a cardboard character she called "Flat Levi," taking fun photos that she compiled into an album for her friend. Take a look!
