This Mom's Heart-Wrenching Experience Saving a Stranger's Life: "All I Could See Was Someone's Son"

On the way back from dinner with her son, Kate Pierini Debernardi began checking her emails as they waited for the BART train — until her son yelled, "Mom! Someone just jumped down on the tracks!"

In a post later shared by Frank Somerville, Kate wrote on Facebook that when she looked up from her phone, there was a youth down on the tracks. She saw that the next train was a minute away, so she ran to the tracks, got down, and said:

Honey, please don't make me be the one to tell your momma.
Please take my hand and come back up here.

Kate could hear people yelling, but all she could see was someone's son. He took her hand and she helped him up, threw her arms around him, and hugged him for dear life.

"He said, 'I just need a hug.' I told him he was amazing and lovable and valuable and I made him get on the train with me." Kate wrote. "If you pray, please pray he stays safe. Please pray he feels loved and valued. Please love and value each other."
