You Can Probably Relate to Why This Mom Says "It's Not My Job to Entertain My Kids"

If you're sick of feeling like you have to occupy your kids 24/7, mom blogger Meredith Masony knows exactly how you feel — and she wants you to know that it's perfectly acceptable to let your kiddos entertain themselves without your help. In a recent video, the mama of three opened up about how she's fed up with feeling responsible for amusing her children all day.

Meredith started by rattling off her jobs as a parent, among them being cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking, doing laundry, and the list went on and on until she stopped to boldly state, "It is not my job to entertain my children; it is their job to entertain themselves."

She went on to explain how she's not advising parents everywhere to not spend time with their children whatsoever, but rather that it's OK to allow them to fend for themselves every now and then without feeling guilty. "I'm not saying that you shouldn't do crafts or projects if that's what you wanna do," she said in the video. "What I am saying is very simple: You don't have to be with them 24 hours a day entertaining them." Her argument? They'll find a way to occupy themselves, just as her kids did when they supposedly fashioned helmets out of old cereal boxes and toilet paper rolls one day.

Besides the fact that doing so will give you more alone time as a parent, Meredith made a point to explain how it also helps the kids build up their own autonomy. "It is important that we give them enough room to figure out what they should and shouldn't be doing . . . Let them figure out what they want to do on their own," she said. We couldn't agree more!

Watch the video above to hear what else Meredith had to say, and you'll definitely be convinced to let your kids do their own thing without your help during these long Summer days.
