How the Meaning of the Word "Mother" Changes With Age

What does the word "mother" mean to you? Girls as young as 5 years old, women as old as 50, and dozens of people in between were asked to respond to that simple word. Some reactions were silly, others powerful, but what we found most interesting was how the meaning of the word changed as the responders grew older and how — deep down — it's always had the same profound significance . . . we just didn't always know how to put it into words.
