This Brave Man Jumped Onto Subway Tracks to Save a Fallen Baby

Braving public transit with little ones is stressful on the best of days — and nobody knows it better than Pamela Ferrell, an NYC grandma who experienced her worst nightmare when deboarding a Times Square subway train on Sunday. When another passenger volunteered to help Pamela lift her granddaughter's stroller out of the train, she accepted. However, when the helpful stranger only used one hand to pick up the stroller, it tipped off balance . . . causing 1-year-old Tabrina (seated inside) to fall between the train and platform, landing directly on the train tracks below.

Taking note of the horrifying situation, others on the platform attempted to reach down from the platform and grab baby Tabrina. When none of their efforts worked, a 54-year-old bystander named Herman McGarrah lowered himself down onto the tracks and crawled beneath the train to reach the endangered toddler. "It was dirty, I was scared, I was kind of shaking," Tabrina's savior, a Harlem resident, told news outlets of the rescue. "Once I got down there, I said 'Please God, don't let the train move.'"

Amazingly, Tabrina suffered a cut to the head but is otherwise unscathed. According to her mom, she's dancing and playing like a normal toddler thanks to McGarrah's daring rescue! The good Samaritan, a bus company employee who has struggled with addiction, posted on Facebook that he would react the same way "anytime."

"I finally done something and made my life credible," he wrote, adding that he wants no recognition for his bravery. But we certainly appreciate his heroism and know that baby Tabrina's family does, too. Thank goodness for selfless, quick-thinking people like McGarrah!
